COVID19-037– April 19,  2020

Dear Patients,

Yesterday, I talked about change, and want to add to that. While I was working out yesterday, I was listening to some music by The Who. In 1978, they published Who Are You; this song was later adapted to the CSI TV series. The lyrics do not really take you anywhere except the recurrent chant 'who are you?' I think many of us have been asking that question to ourselves: who am I? And now, who do I want to be? Today, I was talking to a patient who I sent to and worked with HCGH Emergency Department. The patient commented that she has been there multiple times in the past, but never had as good an experience as she did yesterday. All the staff, the nurses and doctors, the technicians, etc, could not have been better. And so, adversity can bring out the very best in people. Being selfless and grateful is healing. Have a peaceful and relaxing Sunday. And maybe ask yourself: who do I want to be?

The numbers:

US:        735,366 cases     39,090 deaths    5.3% fatality rate (up)

Maryland: as of 12:00, the numbers have not been updated; I'll provide an update tomorrow

This model predicts Maryland will peak tomorrow, The model was last updated on 4-17-20. Locally, the hospital is calm. If things continue in the manner we predict, we will avoid a surge that would overcome our hospital resources. Governor Hogan is a true battlefield general!

Diagnostics and Therapeutics:
  • Nothing new to report. Just try to have a peaceful Sunday!

Administrative notes:
The office will of course be closed again this week. More updates as things progress.

On a musical note: Who Are You? by The Who
And on a lighter note, and speaking of peaceful, I hope you enjoy this recent photo of my grandson Jack:
